Some of our Favorite Recipes!

One week left for our official 30 Day Sugar Detox, but we do hope you will continue to cut-out or reduce your intake of processed sweeteners. To make it a part of your daily life, having easy and yummy sugar-free recipes is essential!

I thought I would put together a list of some of our favorite family meals. Nothing I make is difficult or takes lots of time or ingredients. With two toddlers and working part-time, everything needs to be quick and simple. But that doesn’t mean we need to resort to processed foods or takeout. Here are some of my go-to recipes.

Some of the recipes below, we tweak the ingredients. For instance, if it contains a processed ingredient we would be using a home made version, if it says fat-free we are definitely using full-fat options, or if it has sugar we would be substituting with a natural sweetener like honey. Remember, any recipe you find can be adjusted to be healthier for your family! So if you have a favorite family recipe, consider how you could swap out a few ingredients to make it even better!

I could’ve made blog posts of all these recipes as we eat them often, but why reinvent the wheel, when they are already online. So click on any image below to find the full recipe on other great blogs!

Breakfasts

I am NOT a morning person….
So breakfast needs to be quick and simple with little cleanup!
Many of our breakfasts are smoothies. Just grab the ingredients out of the fridge, freezer, and pantry; and blend them up. The kids will eat anything in a smoothie!

Other simple breakfasts we enjoy are some plain greek yogurt with fruit, peanut butter, or cinnamon. No need for added sugar or artificial sweeteners when there are so many natural ways to sweeten it!

For days we need to head out of the house quickly, we love to have finger foods ready to grab and eat in the car. Granola bars, protein rolls, etc. are great. You can find tons of recipes for those on pinterest as well.

Click any image below to find the full recipe of our favorite breakfasts!

Lunches

When my two year old gets hungry for lunch, he wants it NOW. haha
So, these are also quick, but nutritious.

A very popular lunch at our home is eggs! Boiled, pan-fried, scrambled, as an omelet, any which way! They are full of protein and fats which are great for the kids growth, brain health, and energy.

Many lunches I will also give them a handful of nuts for added fat and protein. The love some pistachios, cashews, peanuts, etc. as a sweet treat on the side! Also all lunches I offer a fresh fruit/vegetable as well.

Dinners

Now dinners I SHOULD have more time to invest in, since we don’t eat until after they are done napping. BUT, the day always seems to get away from me. So the crockpot, one pot meals, etc. are life savers!

This is just a small sample of some of our favorite recipes, but wanted to give you a few to build up your recipe book without being overwhelming. Click any image below for the link to the full recipe.

Desserts

I DEFINITELY have a sweet tooth!
If I didn’t let myself enjoy some of these healthier desserts, then I would fall off the bandwagon and get a Culver’s ice cream sunday…true story. So the best way to stay on track, is to have some yummy treats available that are still good for you.

Other sweet treats we enjoy are apples dipped in peanut butter, fresh fruits, smoothies, and nuts. Yum!

Click any image below for the full recipe, and remember to always choose a natural sweetener like raw honey, pure maple syrup, or liquid stevia extract.

L&G Approved Ways to Satisfy your Sweet Tooth

Welcome to everyone joining us in the 30 Day Sugar Detox! These are going to be some difficult weeks, but will be well worth it!

Sugar is more addictive than cocaine, so definitely expect withdrawal and cravings. So we decided to explain your options for sweeteners to satisfy that craving without giving in to your desire for processed sugar and artificial sweeteners.

God has given us many sweet things naturally in nature, but our over-processed food culture has retrained our taste buds and we crave it like no other generation before. So let’s take a look at some natural sweet options to use in place of that 3pm Snickers bar as you check out at the grocery store ๐Ÿ˜‰

The key here is to be prepared. If you get a craving and only have a house filled with carrots and celery, you’re bound to fall off the wagon and run to the store for something sweet. So I took some time to look up some yummy sugar-free recipes on pinterest (we will post continually throughout the month) and make sure I had all the ingredients on hand.

Now we do know that some of you joining us have taken this detox as a personal challenge to push your limits and avoid all sweeteners. If that’s you, awesome! This list is for those choosing to avoid processed sweeteners specifically, and these are healthier sweet options.

Lavender & Grace Approved Sweeteners to Satisfy your Cravings:

  • Raw Honey (local preferred)
  • Pure Maple Syrup
  • Liquid Stevia Extract (no truvia as that is highly processed)
  • Dates (make sure they don’t have added sugar as some do)
  • Fruits

Got a Sweet Tooth? Don't worry, be happy! You can still eat sweet with these natural options! www.lavenderngrace.com

Good luck to all on this detox with us! Make sure to also connect with our facebook event found here, to get continual encouragement, support, recipes, and more!

Simple Homemade Granola Bars

We are doing a Sugar Detox for the month of February!

Click here to join un in the facebook event for continual information, recipes, encouragement, challenges, and more!

Breakfast foods are one of the biggest sources of added sugars! We think that getting some cereals, yogurt, granola bars, protein drinks, etc. are all ‘supposed’ to be good breakfasts for on-the-go.

BUT, they are LOADED with added sugar, as well as other icky ingredients.

Aside from breakfast, we also love granola bars for just an afternoon snack, or even a late-night goodie. So here is an easy recipe that we make at home. Super easy, good ingredients, and kid-approved! We also like to precut the bars and put some in packaging to grab on our way out of the house.

Simple DIY Granola Bars. www.lavenderngrace.com Sugar Detox 2016

Homemade Granola Bars Recipe

  • 1 cup Peanut Butter (Make your own or check ingredients here)
  • 1 cup Raw Honey (We like to use a honey that is solid at room temperature to help solidify the granola bars)
  • 2 1/2 cups Oats
  • 1/2 cup Ground Flax Seeds
  • 1/4 cup Hemp Seeds
  • Dash of Vanilla

Melt Honey and Peanut Butter in a saucepan. In a large mixing bowl combine Oats, Flax, Hemp, and Vanilla. Then combine liquid with oats and mix well. Add to a 9×13 pan for thin granola bars, or a 9×9 pan for thicker bars. Chill until set in the refrigerator or freezer. Then slice and enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Support your Emotional Balance through the Holidays!

It’s no secret that the most wonderful time of the year, can also be the most stressful time of the year!

With so many plans, dealing with crowds and traffic, stretching your budget, and more it is a lot for us to handle.

Essential oils are amazing for supporting emotional balance, and that was actually the first way I was convinced these oils actually worked!

When we inhale an oil through our nose it travels to the olfactory nerves in the nose. From there it stimulates the limbic system in the brain, where memory and emotion is stored. So when using oils for emotional support, aromatic is a very effective way to use them!

To use oils aromatically you can diffuse them, make a misting air/fabric/perfume spray, add a drop to your hands and cup over nose and mouth to breath in deeply, smell directly from the bottle, and more! You could also apply these oils over the heart, on the back of the neck, insides of the wrists, ears, and more. Read each bottle label for specific usage directions.

I’ve chosen 7 of my personal Favs for emotional support. I bring these oils with me all the time in my purse. You never know when you’ll need a little pick-me-up. Continue reading to hear more about each oil and why I love them!

Lavender

A lot of us just tend to be too busy and not get proper rest each night. We love lavender to support a restful night’s sleep! Great to diffuse or mist onto your pillow to help calm your mind and get your body some much needed rest.

Peace & Calming

This was the first oil I ever tried on my kiddos, and is now always in my diaper bag! It smells so relaxing. I diffuse or apply to my kiddos feet for a good nap or nighttime rest. As an adult I love to apply this one to my wrists for calming and clearing my head.

Joy

This is what I refer to as my “gateway oil.” When my kit arrived I wasn’t totally convinced these oils could actually support the wellness of our bodies. I was having a hard time post-partum from my second baby and decided to give it a try. After using topically and aromatically every two hours for three days, I was a new mommy! Definitely solidified my understanding of oils.

Now I don’t need to use this oil every day anymore, but is still my go-to for an emotional lift and to get me moving when I’m feeling stuck.

Valor

This is also one of my favorites! Smells amazing! Valor is known as “courage in a bottle” for its ability to support your social courage. I love this oil before social gatherings to calm nerves, help me just be comfortable in myself, and to encourage my small talk to flow naturally.

Stress Away

This one is pretty self-explanatory. We are pulled in a hundred different directions during the Christmas season, and this oil is great for calming and relaxing. Use on-the-go as you tackle Christmas present shopping or travel. Also awesome at the end of a crazy day to help decompress and ease you to sleep.

Frankincense

Frankincense has the ability to go beyond the blood-brain barrier and is known for its emotional supporting abilities. If it was good enough for a gift to baby Jesus, then it is good enough for me! I love smelling this oil and thinking about the real reason for the season and what it must have been like to bring these gifts to the Christchild.

Vetiver

This oil is my favorite for attitude. This is what I use for my toddlers to keep them in a good mood all day while at long Christmas parties and their schedule gets all out of whack. It is a thick oil, so we like to add it to a roller bottle and roll on the back of their neck. It has also proven to help keep them awake and alert, so it is great if we know naptime is going to be missed that day.

DIY Dishwasher Detergent

One of my FAVORITE DIY projects is detergent for the dishwashing machine.ย

We live in the country with very, very hard water. I have tried every brand of dishwashing detergent. Even the expensive and very toxic ones. Nothing worked.

I first tried this recipe to save money, but was HAPPILY SURPRISED to see it do the BEST job of anything else! Since I have particularly bad water I upped the amount of citric acid to a full cup, but if you have a water softener or city water you could consider dropping it down to as low as 1/4 cup if that works for you.

DIY DISHWASHER DETERGENT RECIPE

  • 1 cup borax
  • 1 cup washing soda or baking soda
  • 1/c cup citric acid (lemi shine is basically citric acid and much cheaper than buying straight citric acid in the canning isle)
  • 30 drops citrus oils of your choice (my favorite is half lemon/half orange, but any will work)

Mix the ingredients very well. Use a glass bowl (since citric oils will eat away plastics). When you drop in the oils they will bind with the powders and form clumps. Mix thoroughly to insure it is all incorporated with no clumps. If needed, you can use a sifter to make this easier. I store in a regular glass mason jar and keep in the kitchen cupboard. I fill the detergent section in my washing machine (about 2 Tablespoons) per load.

I wish I would have taken before and after pictures of my drinking glasses, because it worked SO WELL!

Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

What to Pack for your Young Living Vendor Event

So you’re loving your oils and you want to share them with everyone! Love it, Share it!

A great way to share your love of Young Living is through a vendor event. With the fall season, there are many events coming up. People are excited to start shopping for Christmas and are especially excited about products that will support their health throughout the holidays.

Here is my list of everything you need to pack to have a successful vendor event without going crazy.

PREMIUM STARTER KIT

Absolutely bring your PSK with a diffuser. You want people to see exactly what they would get!ย

POWER STRIP/EXTENSION CORD

If you’ll have access to electricity bring an extension cord and a power strip so you can plug in your diffuser and a laptop.

SIGNUP OPTIONS

It’s a good idea to have a laptop or other mobile device so people can signup right away online! If they walk away they usually willย never do it on their own. Always bring the paper version for signing up too. These are great if the internet doesn’t work or they’re in a hurry and don’t want to sit at a computer for 15 minutes. Then you just take the paper home and enter all the info in online later that day. The paper signup document is in our facebook group files section.

DRAWING

People don’t want to stay at your booth long. The best thing to do is get their contact information so you can follow-up later. So have a drawing for something. Maybe a citrus oil, a DIY item you made, an enrollment voucher, etc. Then have them fill out slips of paper with their name and info (we have drawing entry form in the files section). “The fortune is in the follow up!” So head home and contact all those people offering to teach them a class, 1-on-1 meeting, etc.

BUSINESS CARDS

A lot of people will want to just grab your info to look up more later. It’s also a good idea to have a list of your upcoming classes that they could attend. If you don’t have business cards, you could either print some on templates that you can buy at an office store; or just have your contact info on some oily-info handouts. It is also a great idea to set-up early so you can go around and introduce yourself to the other vendors and give them a biz card since they won’t get to see your booth during the event!

OIL INFO CARDS

We have created a 4×6 info sheet for each oil in the PSK. Print these either on paper or photo paper (they print to fit on 4×6 photos). I like to line them across the table and set each oil bottle on top. Then guests can easily open the bottle for a sniff while reading about its benefits.

REFERENCE MATERIALS

Don’t be the expert. Bring along some great reference books, printed word documents, graphics from the YL Member Resources, etc. to easily answer questions for people. I have a few copies of my favorite graphics and the bullet point so if people signup they have information to take home right away. It is great for them to have something to reference when they get their kit, so they don’t forget everything they learned from you.

DECORATIVE & BONUS ELEMENTS

You don’t need to go crazy here, but a little color can help draw attention. I like to bring a chalkboard to write things on, a wooden crate to create some height, some color printed graphics (I always have the Head to Toe graphic from our files section to answer questions), and my cardboard towers that describe oils (sold by YL). I also bring other popular YL products like the Thieves cleaner, toothpaste, and Ningxia Red. I choose to also bring a roller bottle, V-6, capsules, a glass spray bottle, and glass drinking bottle so I can show them all the ways we use the oils!

BIG ITEMS?

These are dependent on where your event is. If it’s outdoors you may want to bring a pop up canopy to protect from the sun or rain. Also check with your event coordinator to know if they are providing tables and chairs or if you should bring your own.
Remember to oil-up before and throughout the event to support your mood, sociability, and so others can notice how great you smell ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck and have a great time. ย Just be yourself and others will be drawn to authenticity and your passion for the oils and the wellness they can create.

Winter Car Necessities

Don’t say it too loud, but winter is coming…again. It’s time to get started preparing your car with everything you would need in case of an emergency.

At the end of the article you’ll find our printable checklist, so you can make sure you’re ready. Also make sure to watch our YouTube video as Brittany packs her car!

Think of something we missed? We’d love to hear more ideas, comment below to share!

First, you need the basics.

Rope, carabiner, jumper cables, a rechargeable jumper, pocket knife, compass, duct & electrical tape, waterproof matches, flashlights, tarp, shovel, basic tool kit, and a basic first-aid kit.

We also suggest adding these great natural items to your first-aid kit: arnica, activated charcoal capsules, cayenne pepper capsules, and a DIY first-aid salve.

You also need some snacks in case you are stuck for an extended time. Great ideas for snacks are bottled water (coconut water would also be great in warm climates), granola bars, trail mix, supergreen powder, Ningxia Red, and Ningxia Nitro.

Next you need to be prepared with our favorite must-have Young Living essential oils. Thieves, lavender, peppermint, DiGize, Purification, Stress Away, En-R-Gee, helicrysm, Deep Relief, Lemongrass, and the Thieves Spray. When using oils it is also important to have some reference material, so a Pocket Reference Guide is great!

Don’t have these awesome oils? Don’t put it off, you need them. Find out more here.

If you’re in a warm climate, we are happy for you. But for those of us in the midwest, here are a few more items to make sure you have for the cold months. Extra hats, scarves, and mittens (waterproof is great too). Blankets (thermal or regular warm blankets), a thermal tent, snow shovel, a window ice scraper, and sand or kitty litter to help get out if you get stuck.

Thanks for taking the time to consider this list. It is so important to the safety of your family to always be prepared. Making the effort to pack your car now could make the difference in an emergency situation. Comment below with your favorites to pack!

Road Trip Must-Have Essential Oils

We recently went on a week-long road trip to the east coast. That is a LOT of driving, and here is my list of Must-Haves for any trip. We used each and every of these during our trip and I am so glad I packed them all.

For an oil-addict it is hard to not pack every oil I own, so this is the short list. Great graphic on the bottom with a checklist you can go through when packing for your next vacation.

Thieves: Everyone needs an extra immune system boost when staying up late, going into lots of public places, etc. I loved drinking Thieves in my morning coffee in the car.

Joy: Because sometimes you get lost and need a little emotional support.

Valor: This one is great for emotional support for me to ease my nerves when encountering lots of crowds and strangers in social settings.

DiGize: Road trip snacks….enough said.

Immune boost roller: We like to mix some of our favorite immune supporting oils and keeping them in a handy roller bottle so we can roll right on our feet each morning before we head out for the day.

Thieves spray: This spray is awesome to spray all over your hotel room, think remotes, doorknobs, everywhere!

Citrus fresh & Grapefruit: These are my two favorites to drink in my water throughout the day. Delicious and great at keeping my energy up.

Purification: We liked putting purification blend on a cotton ball in the air vent to keep the car smelling fresh.

Peppermint: So many uses for peppermint! This is my husband’s favorite to take in a capsule after a big meal, but it’s also essential to keep as a “wake-me-up” for those long driving hours.

Lavender: We spent many hours in the sun during our trip, so we loved having lavender to apply to soothe and refresh our skin.

Travel diffuser: The little white thing in the center of the photo is my hand-held diffuser, you can also find some that fit in a cup holder and plug into the cigarette lighter.

Stress away: Because sometimes you get stuck in traffic….for a long time.

RC: Driving with the window down can invite in lots of different pollens and pollutants, we love to breath in some RC to maintain our respiratory health.

Oregano: This is a power-house for supporting your immune system. We took it in a capsule after a few extra late nights to keep our immune system top notch.

Frankincense: Frankincense is my favorite oil, so I couldn’t go anywhere without it. I loved adding a drop to my neti pot saline rinse to keep my sinuses nice and clear.

Tea tree (melaleuca a.): Tea tree is awesome for supporting the skin and we applied to non-cystic acne so our vacation photos had great glowing skin.

Deep relief: Long hours in the car can lead to some achy muscles. Deep relief comes with a convenient roller top so you can easily apply to shoulders, temples, back, etc.

PanAway: Not pictured, but with similar uses as Deep relief we love having both to choose from for soothing muscles and joints after a long day.

Ningxia red & Ningxia nitro: Not pictured, but I loved having my packets of Ningxia red to drink on-the-go for the mornings I didn’t have time to grab a breakfast. Ningxia nitro is also amazing at giving me a long even energy boost and I would drink it on those extra busy days to keep up with my husband.
